  1. My favourite character in The Great Escape is the Squadron Leader Barlett, Big X. This character is based in the real Squadron Leader Roger Bushell, the pilot who organized and led the escape from the German prisoner of war camp, Stalag Luft III. Big X was captured by the Gestapo, and if he was captured again he would be shot. His duty is " to harass, confound, and confuse the enemy to the best of my ability", as he says in the film.

Barlett is my favourite character because his leadership is very imporrtant for all the escape plan. Although the goons discover a tunnel, he forsees the failure an prepared three tunnels. At the end, his partner and friend Mac falls in the trap speaking english and he is caugh by the Gestapo, as 49 of his escape partners. He died, as 49 more prisoners did, shot by the Gestapo. All the film is in memory of the 50.

"I'm going to cause such a terrible stink in this... Third Reich of theirs, that thousands of troops that could well be employed at the front will be tied up here looking after us." This is the objective of all the prisoners in the prisoner of war camp.

Richard Attenborough played as Barlett in this film. He is an English actor, director an producer, and he is most known for his roles in Brighton Rock, The Great Escape, 10 Rillington Place, Miracle on 34th Street and Jurassic Park. As a director he won two Academy awards for Ghandi. He has also won four BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.

  2. My favourite character in The Great Escape is Captain Hilts, starred by Steve McQueen. This character has made 17 escape attempts without counting the four made during the film. He is known as "the cooler king" because he's always cought in his escapes and is send to the cooler with Ives, the one with who forms a relationship. Hilts started working with the Big X when Ives is shoted.

I've also liked the way he escaped once he was out of the tunnel. He had the good idea of making Wehrmacht fall of the motorbike and takeing his uniform and motor. Although he escape for some hours he returned to the prision camp, he is escoted again to the cooler with his baseball mitt and ball.

One of the quotes of that character is :" I haven't seen Berlin yet, from the ground or from the air, and I plan on doing both before the war is over."

Personally, I think that character is one of the most intelligents characters of the film and have cold blood because of the decisions he take, because it's something that I wouldn't do in that moment of panic in a escape.

  3. My favourite character in the film is Steve McQueen who plays part of Virgil Hilts in the film. This person is a pilot who tries to scape from the prision camp. Every time he fails, he is imprisoned in the "fridge". He is american and likes to play baseball. While he is isolated he plays withs his ball. In the end of the film Virgil scspes on a motorbicke and jumps over one fence buet doesn't manage to jump over the next one ans is returnes to the camp.

I have chosen thid character because he has the leading role in the film and plays an important part in the escape.
I like this person because I think he is brave to try to scape and very inteligent to think of scape plans. It is clear that he is determinated to chieve his objectives.

  4. My favorite character in "The great escape" is Colin Blythe, played by Donald Pleasence. In this film he plays the forger role, who gives them identity documents, passports, etc. to all who are going to escape. Colin is slowly losing vision until he goes blind. At the time of escaping, he takes Hendley, an other of the prisoners that escape, as a guide. Once they have left the field, they catch a train and have to jump while it´s going because there is a police officer trying to see if there are any fugitives. Then, they steal a plane that ends up crashing and just have to make an emergency landing that ends with the death of Collin and the capture of Hendley . I like how he acts because we can see that despite he goes blind, he does his job right. I like this chapter too because he looks a smart person, and I think that this it's important to scape from the prision camp.
In real life, Donald Pleasence, who was born in England in 1919 and died in France in 1995, was a British actor, whose roles have almost always been bad, and has had a successful career.

  5. My favorite character in "The Great Escape" is Danny Velinski, "Tunnel King", starred by Charles Bronson. Bronson is an american actor of Polish origin who starred characters as brutal police, detectives, gunmen, security guards, boxers and "thugs" from mafia.

In the film, his character is very important for the leak because he is the one who dug the tunnel so that the prisoners could escape. I like this character because although had claustrophobia, he continued digging the tunnel for that the other prisioners could escape.

Danny though at first not wanting to get away because they do not want to spend the tunnel, at the end manages to escape and is one of three surviving. He and Willie Dickes, his partner, when they escape steal a boat sailing down a river to the Baltic Sea coast, where they find a Swedish merchant ship and collect them.

I would highlight for this character for his courage because although he had claustrophobia he continued digging for the prisioners of Stalag Luft III.

  6. My favourite character in The Great Escape is Danny as ‘tunnel king’ by Charles Bronson.
This character in my opinion does a very difficult work, because he has removed the earth for make a tunnel for scape. And Danny has got claustrophobia, and try and try to scape but always fail. Willie, the best friend of Danni, helps to him for to pass this fear. At the end of film them scape together in a boat.
I think that the people don’t think in Danni and the work that he did for scape.

  7. My favorite character in The Great Escape is Archibald Ives, aka the "Mole" by Angus Lennie. Angus Lennie is a Scottish actor known for his paper in this film. He was also known for being in the television soap opera Crossroads.
In the film, he is a flying officer of the British royal air force. Virgil Hilts and Archibald Ives protagonised one of the most funny scenes of the film when after trying to escape they enclose them in the cooler. Later when Ives discover that the germany guardians found the first tunnel, he desperately tries to escape, the guardians discover it and end up killing him while his friends can't do anything.

Ives is a secondary character but I try this character because I think that Archibald is one of the most funnies actors in the film and insurance you will laugh with him.

  8. My favorite character in "The great escape" is Captain Hilts, or like people say: "the cooler king". The person that interpret these character is Steve McQueen. He is an American actor and he dedicated to representaton from he was a child.

The think that i like more of these character is his her sense of humor infront of his difficult situation. In the film , he is the most funny character because he love provoke the guards and ends up in" the cooler " but the guards are accustomed.

Also, he is very brave and always fight for what he wants. He help his comrades to escape and he is one of the few who escapes thanks to his intelligence.
Despite the effort, the guards capure him and they doesn't kill him but they encolse him in the cooler.

To sum up, he is my favorite character for his brillian interpretation and for
niceness that he cause in me.

He dead in the final of the film, and his death is advice in the start of the film.
To sump up I can say that the great escape is one of my favourites films because ever since That I was a kid I was watching the same film.
And this is all of the reasons because the great escape is a good film for me. Because i dont tired of watch.

  10. My favourite character in "The great escape" is Captain Virgil Hilts, also known as "the Cooler King", who was starred by Steve McQueen. This character is an American pilot expert in leaks and this has made 17 escape attempts.

Furthermore, this character is based on two real-life characters: the legendary British officer of the RAF Jimmy James, with thirteen escapes on his back and many other attempts, and Davey Jones, the only American in the Stalag Luft III nazi concentration camp.

Personally, Hilts is my favourite character because I think that he is very intelligent and brave because he always takes part in difficult scenes in the film, even though, in the film, he doesn't manage to do what he's aiming for so he returns to the prison camp and. He also stands out for his outstanding humour sense and his individualism, because he doesn't need anyone in his incessant quest to harass the enemy.

  11. My favourite character in "The great escape" is Captain Virgil Hilts, also known as "the Cooler King", who was starred by Steve McQueen.
You could say that is the star of the movie and the person who gets into trouble more.
Hilts is my favorite character because he's one of the people showing a great fellowship because instead of building a tunnel to escape only to him , decided to tell his plan to others who are in the same situation as in order to be free . It is also one of the characters that brings comedy in the movie and makes it more fun because he loves to get into trouble. Could be said to the most clever of all prisoners and the group leader .

  12. My favourite character in the "great escape" is Virgil Hilts (Steve McQueen), is my favorite character because he is the protagonist of the movie. he is the captain of the USAAF, and that always gets into trouble.

I like it because when he and Flying Officer RAF Archibald Ives (Angus Lennie) think of a plan for all colleagues to escape the Germans.

Although the end of the movie again just going to the field where he had locked inside.

In conculsion, this character is my favorite because even a captain thinks of his colleagues who are locked up with them and think a plan not only to save the. but at the end of the movie does not end well because returns over the countryside where he was locked before.

  13. My favorite character in "The Great Escape" is Danny Velinski, also known as "Tunnel King" and starred by Charles Bronson. Bronson was an american actor born on November 3th the year 1921 in Pennsylvania and died in August 30th in 2003 because of pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease. He starred in films such as "The Magnificent Seven", "Once Upon a Time in the West", and in this case "The Great Escape".

Danny Velinski, in my opinion, is one of the most important characters of the film. And here's why: Danny is not the brain of the operation about the escape and he maybe doesn't stand out like other characters such as Captain Hilts, starred by Steve McQueen. But I think he does an important and difficult work.

Danny Velinski, such as the name "Tunnel King" suggest, is the person in charge of making the tunnels that will liberate the prisoners of the war camp. I think that Danny does a very important work for his mates because he is making the tunnels although he has claustrophobia. In my opinion, I also think that the work maked by Danny is not very appreciated by the spectators of the movie.

In his job, he has a mate, William Dickes, who helps with the excavation, and also helps to calm the claustrophobia of Danny. Velinski is my favourite character also because I consider he a very clever person. He, Dickes and Sedgwick are the only characters of the movie that achieve escape.

  14. My favourite character in the "great escape" is Virgil Hilts (Steve McQueen), also like people say "the cooler king". He do some attempts the escape.

The first attempt to escape fails, and the two organizers, the captain Virgil Hilts and Flying Officer RAF Archibald Ives are locked in "the fridge", a special isolation cell and punishment, prison camp for a while.

Virgil Hilts, continually escapes and gets caught in a few days. With this, he helps the organization to create maps of the area and gives information about the village and the nearest train station.

After several attempts to reach Switzerland, Sweden and Spain, most of the prisoners were captured or killed. Also Virgili Hilts.

He is my favourite character because he is brave and intelligent. He helps to the prisoners to escape and he is a character that gives a lot of dynamism to movie.

  15. My favourite character in The Great Escape is Lieutenant Hendley, aka "The Scrounger" (starred by James Garner). He is the character that helps the blind man to escape from the German Prisioners of War camp in which they are recluded with other war prisioners during World War II.

This character is the only person which will help his blind friend during the escape, even though he knows he is at risk because they can be easily captured while they are running away. It is a nice act of friendship, and which demonstrates the importance of helping your friends even if there are very diffficult conditions which can kill yourself. It is a very serious character, and he doesn't tell the group that his friend is blind because he knows the rest of the group will not let him go. He demonstrates that it is very important that the group is together, in spite that they escape fails after the plane crash, and that after the crash the blind man is shot dead by a German snipper.

This character demonstrates all through the film that he gives more importance to friendship and loyalty than to his own health and security, in spite of the difficult conditions and of the vital risk they're taking. It is important for me to recognize the valour and courage of Lt. Hendley.

  16. My favourite character in this film is Danny Velinski, also knows as "Tunnel King". This character is interpreted by Charles Bronson. He was born on November 3, 1921 and he was an american film and television actor. Finally, he died of pneumonia at age 81, on August 30, 2003.

Danny Velinski, spent a lot of his time in the tunnel, for prisoners of war camp could
escape. He survived multiple cave-ins, and for this reason, he develops claustrophobia. At the last moment, Danny decline to go, but his friend Willie, helped him. However, an impacient character was arrested when he was escaping. To conclude, we can say that he get escapes to Spain with Willie in a Swedish merchant ship.

I think that this character was very sacrificer because he helped a lot of people making tunnels. Futhermore, he demonstrates a lot of bravery and courage.

  18. My favourite character in the movie is the flight-lieutenant captain Virgill Hills, that is based on David M. Jones, a United States air force pilot during the II world war.

I like Captain Hills because he is fearless and indomitable to the end of the film, he tried to escape 17 times from de war camp and although he always end into de cooler, he never gives up, that is the reason for being named " the cooler king", as he is cheeky he gives the movie a point of humor.

I think that he is a good example of the values that has to had a typical hero.

  19. My favourite character is Roger Bartlett (Big x), performed by Richard Attenborough. He is my favourite character because he is one of the most intelligent majors in the camp, and he also is the leader and the brain of all the attempts of escape despite being always guarded by the nazis.

Richard Samuel Attenborough (born 29 August 1923) is an English actor, film director, producer and entrepreneur. He is the President of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. As a film director and producer, he won two Academy Awards for Gandhi in 1983. He has also won four BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards. 20. My favourite character in The great Escape (1963) is the Captain Virgil Hilts, also known in the film as “The cooler King”.

Hilts always angry the guards because he tried to scape several times and for his general irreverence. He is who thought the plan to scape through a tunnel under the prison camp.

I like this character because is very crafty and intelligent (he is who conceives the plan to scape) . Furthermore, he is a good fellow prison because helped the other prisoners to scape through the tunnel and finally I admire his courage because he always take part of difficult situations.
