A third member of a family in the UK has been infected with a new respiratory illness similar to the deadly Sars virus, officials say.

5 of the 12 people who had the virus have died.
The infection is thought to come from contact with animals. But it can be spread between people too. It is thought because there are some links between affected people.

  2. "Premature ageing can be reversed by reactivating an enzyme that protects the tips of chromosomes (telomere). This enzyme is called Telomerase and was discovered by the doctors Jack Szostack, Carol Greider and Elisabeth Blackburn.

Researchers are realizing that telomerase's role in ageing is far more nuanced than first thought, because telomerase offers the possibility that normal human ageing could be slowed by reawakening the enzyme in cells where it has stopped working."

By Nature, International weekly journal of science.

I think that is a great and important advance in the biomedicine investigations. We can not be immortals but this enzyme may produce an increase in life expectancy.

It's so important invest in the field of research, since these are the basis for the advancement of humankind.

My research project is about that enzyme and her influence in age, cancer, Alzheimer and AIDS. It's a very interesant topic and I hope this can input a lot of solutions and treatments.

  3. $50 MILLION OF DIAMONDS HAVE BEEN STOLEN AT BRUSSELS AIRPORT

(Reuters) - Robbers dressed as police and armed with machineguns have stolen 120 parcels of diamonds worth millions of dollars from the runway of Brussels Airport in one of the biggest heists the industry has seen.

Two vehicles carrying eight men drove up to a van belonging to security firm Brinks, which had just finished loading the diamonds into a Swiss passenger plane, on Monday evening, officials said.

The men, who were masked but also wore police uniforms, did not fire a single shot and the entire heist took less than five minutes, said Ine Van Wymersch, spokeswoman for the Brussels prosecutor's office.

They escaped and are now being hunted by police.

"They were well prepared," Van Wymersch said. "There were passengers on the plane but they saw nothing of what was going on.

Prosecutors said they could not yet comment on how much the diamonds taken were worth or to whom they belonged.

Belgian state broadcaster VRT reported the total value was 350 million euros. A spokeswoman for the Antwerp Diamond Centre said the value may be closer to $50 million.

"In any case it's one of the biggest robberies we've seen," she said.

Antwerp has been a leading diamond centre for centuries, with some eight in every 10 rough diamonds, and five in every 10 polished diamonds, passing through it.

Both vehicles sped off after the robbery and one was later found burnt just outside of Brussels.

The robbers managed to get onto the tarmac after breaking through the fence that surrounds the airport, an airport spokesman said. (Reporting by Robert-Jan Bartunek; Editing by Angus MacSwan)

Coment: I don't understand how a person can be so brave to steal diamonds at airport and it's more: at Brussels airport, this airport isn't a little and seguramente there are very much vigilance. Also I can't understand how the police and the vigilance They cannot realize, because there is sure that everything must be very controlled. Is very impresionant that the two men were dressed in policeman and had everything so controlled that nobody was suspecting anything in the theft. Is the most stolen of diamonds of the history! In adittion, is a tipical history of a film.

  5. British student, 20, gang-raped by four men on balcony in Thailand after 'boyfriend left her in a bar.

A British student has been gang raped in Thailand after moving there two weeks ago to become an English teacher. The 22-year-old was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning by four Thai men.
Police said the men were driving around the southern provincial capital of Nakhon Sri Thammarat in a pick-up truck. They snatched their victim as she left a late-night restaurant popular for serving alcohol after-hours.
The young woman, from Scotland, was thought to have been taken to a nearby building where she was repeatedly raped.

    DAILY MAIL.

    MY OPINION:

Day after day millions of womens die by mens violently, however this injustices it's not punished. I feel very strongly that in the present the women are not valued as much as the men.

It is clear that in poor countries there are more cases of rapes than in rich countries. For example one of the cases is situated in India where a woman was raped by many men in bus, but this fact didn't considere important. Amazingly, the polemic of the rape caused a revolution in the womens of the country. The womans want a change, so they think that it must punish to rapist.

To conclude, the womans are persons just the same as the men, so they deserve the same attention that men in around the world. Furthermore, it is necessary that the woman impose his rights in the life for get his personality.

  7. “Apple admits to being targeted by hackers”

Apple said today (19-2-2013) that it been attacked by the same hackers who had targeted Facebook last week, in an unprecedented admission by the world’s leading technology company that its systems had been compromised.
The California-based company said that the hacking affected a “limited number” of Mac computers belonging to its employees, but that “there is no evidence that any data left Apple.” It added that it is working with law enforcement in order to track down the hackers.

In my opinion, if we don’t try to eliminate them (making programs safer or I don’t know what we would have to do), we will suffer the consequences in a few years. They will be able to control the world with only one computer in their hands. If they can really damage the system of one company as Apple, why won’t they be able to govern a state? It looks very odd and distant, but it can be possible.

  8. SYRIA FOOTBALLER 'KILLED BY MORTARS'
<< A Syrian footballer has been killed in a mortar strike near a stadium in Damascus, the state news agency says. >>

Homs-based club Al-Wathba and Al-Nawair, from Hama, were getting ready to go to the stadium when the shells struck, reports say.
The players, who were staying in a nearby complex, were hit by shrapnel, the reports said.
AFP news agency quoted an unnamed sports official as saying four Al-Nawair players were injured.

The dead footballer was named as Youssef Sleiman, who belonged to Al-Wathba.
"We were collecting our things about to head to the stadium when we heard the first explosion and the windows were blown off,'' Ali Ghosn, a 20-year-old player, told the Associated Press.
"Youssef was hit in the neck. We ran out to the corridor when the second explosion struck and I saw Youssef fall down bleeding from his neck,'' he said.

A Lebanese judge meanwhile has recommended the death penalty for a former pro-Syrian Lebanese minister for allegedly plotting attacks.
Michel Samaha is accused, along with Syrian security chief Ali Mamlouk, of "transporting explosives from Syria to Lebanon in an attempt to assassinate Lebanese political and religious leaders," according to a copy of the indictment seen by AFP.

Mr Samaha, a member of parliament, was arrested in Beirut in August, while Mr Mamlouk remains free.

The former minister's arrest came as a surprise in Lebanon, where the current coalition government includes Syria's allies.

    MY OPINION

When I have read this article which talks about this horrible situation, I haven't can avoid feel scary. The horror of the war is a eternal scar which will remain in this land stained with all of the dead.

It is terrible that innocent people like this football player have died because of guns. Probably, a very cruel person said that this football player died was only one of a lot of people which them death were justified.

Although some people think in this way, this situation is critical because the life of innocent people is stolen by guns and violence every day. I hope with all of my heart that finish the war and the silence of the death become bliss sound.

  9. "Greece hit by fresh strike chaos"

Tens of thousands of Greeks are taking part in the first general strike of 2013, as workers renew their protest over austerity measures.
Crowds marched towards parliament in Athens, beating drums and blowing whistles as part of the 24-hour strike.
Minor clashes broke out at one stage when police fired tear gas at hooded youths throwing stones.
The strike has been called by Greece's two biggest trade unions, representing half the four million-strong workforce.
"We are protesting about pensions, emergency taxes, the high cost of life," retired factory worker Kyriakos Anastassiadis told the Associated Press.
The strike shut schools and left hospitals with emergency staffing. Domestic flights and long-distance train services were cancelled.
Ilias Iliopoulos, secretary-general of Adedy public sector union, said the strike was an attempt to "get rid of the bailout deal".
"A social explosion is very near," he said.

    BBC NEWS

In my opinion, the situation in Greece will go to a social explosion. The European Union applied many political and economical changes in Greece but the situation is the same of two years ago. The Greeks won’t keep calm for a long time and the strikes could be a usual phenomenon in Greece. In this situation, politics in Greece need a radical change for calm the social revolution. If the European Union or Greek politicians couldn't achieve good politics for their economy the strikes will grow up, a social explosion will happen in a short period of time and probably the Greek people will do a social revolution.

  10. Syria footballer 'killed in Damascus stadium attack'

A Syrian footballer has been killed in a mortar strike near a stadium in Damascus, the state news agency says.

    BBC news

I thing that this new isn’t more than a very little example of the terrible things that they are happening in Syria. It isn’t important if the people who are dying are footballers or ‘just’ civil. The thing is that while thousands of people are being killed in Syria, the rest of the world is watching it without doing anything. The western countries say that this violence is not OK, but what are they doing? They love their oil but not their people. If many people have to die to get our peace of black gold, they will die. Despite that, the media are so much sensible and they inform us that a footballer has been killed. It is terrible. But have anybody heard something about the 70,000 victims of the war in the newspaper?

  11. << Lost Antarctic Royal penguin found in New Zealand by a sailor >>

"A royal penguin is being cared for at a New Zealand zoo after being found stranded on a beach 2,000km (1,240 miles) from home its Antarctic.

The young male bird, which was dehydrated and starving, is thought to be only the fourth royal penguin to wash up there in more than a century.
He is believed to have come from a breeding colony in the sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.

Vets said the bird, dubbed Happy Feet Jr, may have been drifting for a year.
Lisa Argilla, a vet at Wellington Zoo, said the penguin had possibly struggled to find enough food or had had problems hunting and had come ashore as he needed to go through his seasonal moulting.

He was found on Tora beach, on the coast to the south of Wellington, on Sunday".

    BBC NEWS; 19th Frebruary.

    PERSONAL OPINION

I think that Antartic Royal Penguins are the prettiest penguins in the earth, however they are endangered.

It is a shame that members of this species die as we hardly have 50 royal penguins.
Fortunately, there are always friendly people who rescue animals in danger and ensure for they.

I think, people should bring several members of these penguins to a zoo to more appropriate.

More animals have disease and lose the mind until they lost, then they die in solitude.
Should also be done with the thousands of animals who suffer the same.
New Zealand is an island full of endangered animals, I think Australian people must put some kind of security for this animals.

  12. "Bangladesh protests trigger changes to war crimes law"
Bangladesh's parliament has amended a law which will allow the state to appeal against the life sentence of an Islamist party leader, after protesters called for his execution.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators in the capital, Dhaka, cheered the news.

The legal amendment also paves the way for the prosecution and potential ban of the Jamaat-e-Islami party.

Jamaat chief Abdul Kader Mullah was given life for his alleged role in crimes in the 1971 independence war.

The ruling sparked nearly two weeks of angry mass protests in Dhaka and other cities.

Demonstrators - mainly young men and women - demanded the death penalty for Mullah and 10 others accused of committing crimes against humanity during the country's war of independence war with Pakistan in 1971.

The announcement came a day after three people were killed in clashes between police and Jamaat supporters.

The Jamaat called for a country-wide general strike on Monday in protest at the deaths.

  13. ''Bombs in Syrian Capital Are Said to Kill Dozens''

At least three car bombs roiled Damascus on Thursday, including a powerful blast near the downtown headquarters of President Bashar al-Assad’s ruling party and the Russian Embassy that witnesses said shook the neighborhood like an earthquake. Antigovernment activists described the bombings as some of the worst to hit the Syrian capital in the nearly two-year-old conflict and said at least 72 people had been killed, mostly civilians.

Witnesses, including people who had been living near the ruling party headquarters in the Mazraa district, said the bombings shattered what little confidence they had left that Mr. Assad’s forces could preserve at least some semblance of normalcy in Damascus, where armed insurgents have attacked with increasing brazenness.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility. The main umbrella opposition group seeking to depose Mr. Assad condemned the bombings as it convened a meeting in Cairo. It was unclear whether the blasts had been timed to the Cairo meeting.

    New York Times

    Personal opinion:

In my opinion any tipe of war has no sense nowadays, we have made a very big progress in the lasts years but we still resolve our problems fighting. We have an exeple rigth here were 72 people were killed because of the bombs of the antigoverment activists. We have to search for a better solution than make war so we can get what we want. Comunication, talking about the problem and possibles solutions is always the best solution. This kind of articles make me sad and frustrated to live in a world which still doesn't know that fighting doesn't solves anything, just gives death and pain to everyone.
I think that people should think twice before start a war or just send bombs and kill people as their lives are worthless. People start wars or attack people very easily and they have many consequences to start them so easily.

An acne pill banned in parts of Europe has been linked to the deaths of seven British women.
Dianette is still prescribed to thousands of women in the UK for severe skin conditions. Yet an investigation has been launched in France after four women who took it died.
The latest data from the UK’s medicines regulator reveals that during the past three years, seven women in the UK have died while taking the drug, and there have been 83 reports of suspected side effects such as depression and hair loss.

Dianette, which is prescribed only to women because of the hormones it contains, is known to increase the risk of blood clots. However, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has insisted it has ‘no new concerns’ and that women should continue taking it.

    Personal opinion:

In my opinion before giving this medicine to any person, that person should have a check up of and see if they body system can handle this type of hormones. Although doctors say this medicine it's out of risk, it's better to prevent than risk, because one of the cons of Dianette is that it increases your blood clots and vein blockages.

In conclusion, I would prevent and have a check up of my system, before taking this pill.

  15. "Sry Lankan monks are told to watch diet"

Fears that monks in Sri Lanka are increasingly contracting diet-related diseases such as diabetes has prompted the authorities to devise a special menu for the clergy.

Since monks traditionally do not cook they depend on donations given by devotees. Much of this food is high in cholesterol and lacking in nutrients.

To help the monks eat more healthily the Sri Lankan Medical Research Institute has issued guidelines and suggested healthier menus to follow.

    Source: BBC News

    Personal opinion:

I think that the rules of the buddist monks are really amazing for everyone accustomed to the rules of the occidental clergy. The fact is that, for these monks, cooking is absoulutely forbidden, so they survive from the food people donates. And it surprises me that, in a country like Sri Lanka (with a culture and a economical situation very similar to the indian), people cooks (and have access to) food with a lot of cholesterol, because I used to think that they only had basic food to eat (like rice with some species)

In conclusion, I hope that those Sri Lankan doesn't need more medical attention for a diet-related disease, and that they can enjoy of a healthier diet with less cholesterol.

  16. “The September 11 attacks (also referred to as September 11, September 11th, or 9/11) were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks launched by the Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda upon the United States in New York City and the Washington, D.C. areas on September 11, 2001. On that Tuesday morning, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four passenger jets, intending to fly them in suicide attacks into targeted buildings. Two of those planes, American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175, were crashed into the North and South towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center complex in New York City. Both towers collapsed within two hours and falling debris, combined with fires that the debris initiated in several surrounding buildings, led to the partial or complete collapse of all the other buildings in the World Trade Center complex, also causing major damage to ten other large structures in the immediate area of the complex. A third plane, American Airlines Flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon (the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense), leading to a partial collapse in its western side. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93, was targeted at United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., but crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania after its passengers tried to overcome the hijackers. Almost 3,000 people died in the attacks, including all 227 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the four planes.”

    Personal opinion:

This is a dramatic day in the history of the humanity because since this terrorist atack, the western world increase the racism and the distrust about the foreign people. Also, this bomb promoted another "Irak war" where die a lot of thousands people, american and Iraqi.
Although i was six years when passed this atacked, I will can't forget this day never, because all the world seen fall the "twin towers". Was a disaster.

  18. Adele's 21 Is Biggest-Selling Album In World... Again

Adele's 21 has been named as the world's biggest-selling album for the second year in succession. The British star-who won an Oscar for her 'Skyfall' theme on Sunday night-sold another 8.3 million copies of her hugely successful second album in 2012, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

    SOURCE: MTV.UK

While I was reading that little new about Adele’s success I knew that I must comment something about it. So, in my opinion, I’m not agree. I mean, there are so many artists that the last weekend deserves the Oscar as the Biggest-Selling Album In World. For example, this year singers like Taylor Swift or Maroon 5 have achieved its success by its own. I know and probably I can understand why was choosen Adele and not the others because of that amazing song called ‘Skyfall’, but I’m still not glad with that decision. Also, ‘Skyfall’ is the soundtrack of a very important movie this year so I’m sure that this is the reason why she won.

Mr Pistorius, 26, admits shooting Ms Steenkamp, 29, but denies murder, saying he mistook her for an intruder.

Gina Myers said Reeva Steenkamp was "thoughtful and sentimental" and had planned to give Pistorius photographs of them together on Valentine's Day.

    Source: BBC News

    Personal opinion:

While I was reading this news, I thought that it was incredible and incoherent.

Oscar Pistorius shot his girlfriend because he thought that she was a thief. I think that if you believe that in your house there are robbers, you call the police, but you never shoot if you aren't sure who is in your house.

I think that nowadays there is a lot of gender violence and this case could be one of them. At the moment Pistorius is free, however his crime is very serious and he should be punished.
Ms Steenkamp's family think that this crime was not an accident. She was a model and she was pregnant when she was killed. This family want that he explains the truth, because they don't believe this argument.

Another opinion is that he hasn't been arrested because his crime was commited is South Africa and justice is more tolerable there.

I hope that this case could be solved, and if Mr Pistorius is acused of shooting his girlfriend voluntarily, he should enter in prison.

A fun-loving 16-year-old boy was fatally shot by cops in Brooklyn late Saturday after the teen pointed a revolver at a pair of plain-clothes cops, police said.

Kimani "Kiki" Gray was standing in front of a home on E. 52nd St. near Tilden Ave. in East Flatbush with five other young men when he was spotted by two undercover cops just before 11:30 p.m.

Gray split from his pals when he noticed the cops, police said, and adjusted his waistband.

The cops, a 30-year-old sergeant and 26-year-old officer, got out and approached Gray, but he turned toward them, loaded .38-caliber revolver in hand, officials said.
Both cops squeezed off several rounds at Gray, who was hit multiple times in the torso and legs. He was rushed to nearby Kings County Hospital, where he died.
Gray’s mother, Carol Gray, rushed to the hospital after learning her son was shot, and was fainted and hospitalized herself after learning he died, relatives said.
"It's going to drive the whole family crazy," Gray’s cousin, Malike Vernon, 19, said of his death.

The family of the victim is dismayed by this fact and his brother says he had no record that he had a gun and If he had been there, he could have avoided the event.
